FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions about the Fuel Cost Calculator

Click a question to expand the answer.

How do I calculate fuel costs?
Fuel cost = (Distance (km) × Consumption (L/100 km) ÷ 100) × Price per litre.
What does consumption in L/100 km mean?
This is your car’s fuel consumption per 100 km—often shown in the onboard computer or in the vehicle specifications.
Can I calculate the cost per person?
Yes. Enter the number of people (including the driver) and the total cost will be calculated per person.
Can I enter start and destination instead of kilometers?
Yes. Start/destination are converted into a road route and the distance is filled in automatically.
How accurate is the toll and vignette estimate?
It is an approximation by country. Real costs depend on the route, vehicle class and local rules.
Which fuel types are supported?
Petrol (E10/91), Premium (E5/95) and Diesel.
Can I change the fuel price manually?
Yes. You can override the price at any time or reset it to the default.
Where do the fuel prices come from?
Depending on the country, average values are used.
Why do real costs differ from the calculation?
Driving style, traffic, weather, load, tyres, actual prices and toll details affect real-world costs.
What are “running costs”?
An approximation for maintenance, wear, depreciation and insurance, plus a toll/vignette estimate.
Can I calculate a round trip?
Yes. Either double the kilometers or calculate the route separately for outbound and return.
How is the CO₂ balance calculated?
CO₂ is estimated from consumption (kg CO₂ per litre), depending on petrol or diesel.
What do the CO₂ comparison values (car/train/flight) mean?
These are guideline values for orientation. Train/flight are typically per seat, car per vehicle.
Does the calculator work worldwide?
Yes. You can select places worldwide. Prices and toll/vignette are stored as approximations depending on the country.
Why is it split 50/50 when changing countries?
It’s a quick estimate when the start and destination countries differ. Exact values would require a precise route split by country.
What to do if no route is found?
Enter the location more precisely (city + country), check spelling, or try a nearby place.
Why is the map sometimes white or loading oddly?
Usually a resize/viewport issue or a slow connection. A reload or “Reset map” often helps.
Can I use the calculator without the map?
Yes. You can simply enter kilometers, consumption and price—without start/destination.
Why are values “$/100 km” useful?
They help you compare vehicles or trips more easily, independent of the route length.
Do you store my inputs?
The calculator works without registration. Inputs are generally not stored server-side; cookies only relate to consent/ads.
Which data should I enter for the best accuracy?
Use your real consumption (e.g. long-term average) and your current fuel price for the most reliable results.
